Kaili Qiandongnan Introduction

Around 195 kilometers away from Guiyang, Kaili is the center of the Miao ethnic culture. The City is located at the foot of the Miao Mountain and on the bank of the Qingshui River, with a total area of 1,306 square kilometers.

Most of the inhabitants in the Kaili region are the Miao ethnic people, who have lived in the area for hundreds of years. Kaili is the gateway to the various Miao villages scattering in the mountains. Kaili was nicknamed as ' homeland of music' and 'Ocean of Songs and Dances' and ' towns of festivals' due to the flourishing Miao culture. Miao people are good at singing by nature and for them, the meaning of singing a song goes far beyond of entertaiment, instead, it's a way of life. Miao dance accompanied with the complicated, self-made music instruments is unsophisticated.

Miao people celebrate multitude of festivals and occasions throughout the year with songs and dances. These celebrations all take place on dates according to the Chinese lunar calendar. Check if  your planned tour dates in accordance with these celebrations if you are after the colorful local culture.
