Hailongtun (Sea Dragon Village),Zunyi

On the east of Longyan Mountain in Taiping, Zunyi County, Hailongtun sits strategically on the highest mountain top and is encircled by water. During the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), the Yang rulers had fortified this ancient pass and battlefield with three rings of walls and nine checkpoints, leaving only one narrow trail behind the mountain. Despite the impregnable defense work, in 1600, the Ming troops put on end to the 700-year Yang rule. The walls, watchtowers, gates and stone tablets are still mostly intact. In the village, a Ming-dynasty stone tablet listing the decrees by Yang Yinglong is an important cultural relic of the tribal rule system as well as a record of the checkpoint facilities.
