Hua'er(Flower) Songs of Qinghai Haidong
Hua'er is a unique form of folk music which enjoys high popularity among the Hui, Han, Dongxiang, Sala, Tu, Tibet and Yugu ethnic groups living in northwestern China including Gansu, Qinghai, Ningxia, and Xinjiang.
Hua'er songs are performed both on ordinary occasions as well we at 'Hua'er festivals'. In the Tu's tradition, the 'Hua'er Festivals' happen in the sixth lunar month. Most Hua'er songs are love songs, sung between young men and women to woo each other. The melodies and lyrics of Hua'er are usually simple, but passionate.
