Qinghai welcomes golden travel season after the earthquake

Tourism in Qinghai Province has already seen a preliminary recovery from the effects of the Yushu earthquake, according to the Qinghai Tourism Administration. Since July, large-scale tourism activities, especially the Tour of Qinghai Lake and the International Cycling Race, have promoted a high tide of tourism to the Qinghai Plateau.

Qinghai Lake, Ta'er Temple and some other famous scenic spots have been crowded with tourists. A worker at the scenic spots said July is the most beautiful month on the Qianghai Plateau, and as a result, most of the scenic spots were booming.

Hotels in Xining, the capital of Qinghai Province, are seeing occupancy rates of over 90 percent, and the reservations still seem to have a lot of steam ahead.

According to statistics, from January to June, Qinghai received 4.5 million domestic tourists, demonstrating a 15.4-percent year-on-year increase; and 10,870 foreign tourists, up 84.3 percent. Revenues totaled 2.5 billion, up by 28.5 percent as compared with the same period last year.

An officer of the Qinghai Tourism Administration said because of the effects of the Yushu earthquake, the number of tourists fell off sharply in April and May. However, the number began to rise in June, to over 20 percent higher than the same time last year.

In addition, the tourism facilities in Yushu have been basically restored. Princess Wen Cheng Temple and Sanjiangyuan Monument have opened to the public.
