Emei buddhist mountain and Leshan Grand Buddha were listed as the World Natural and Cultural heritage together by UNESCO in 1996.
Leshan Giant Buddha, the largest stone sculpture of Buddha in the world, sits at the confluence of the Minjiang river, Dadu river and Qingyi river. According to records, the carving of Giant Budda was started in the first year of the reign of the Tang Dynasty Emperor Xuanzong (713 AD), and completed in the 19th year of Emperor Dezong (803 AD). It lasted for 90 years to complete this 71 meters high sitting buddha statue. More amazingly, it has been very well preserved during the past 1,207 years.
Emeishan(the Beauty Brow Mountain) is one of the four holy Buddhist mountains. It enjoys a worldwide fame as the most beautiful buddhist mountain in China. Sunrise, Cloud Sea, Buddha Halo and Holy Lamp at the Golden Summit compose the gorgeous four wonders on the top of Mt.emei. Historical monasteries hidden in the mountains, rare plant species and a lot of wild creatures make this mountain well known not only for its buddhist culture but also the attractive natural scenery.
Detailed Itinerary
Day1:Chengdu-Leshan-Mt.Emei Leidongping
Leave Chengdu for Lesahn in the morning.On the way, we can enjoy the beautiful rural scene of West Sichuan Plain, the rice fields, tea plants etc. 2 hours later, we'll arrive at Leshan Giant Budda located at Lingyun hill. As a saying goes 'the buddha occupies a hill and the hill hugs the buddda', visiors will be shocked by this 71 meters high buddha.Then, drive to Emei mountain and change to the pollution-free sightseeing bus and take a ride on the mountainous road to Leidongping which is located quite near the cable car station to the Golden Summit.
Overnight: Leidongping hotel or Qixiangqu Hotel
Day2: Full day Emei tour
To be an early bird today to catch the cable car up to Golden Summit for the sunrise if the weather plays friendly with us. We'll visit the magnificent statue of Samantabhadra (Puxian buddhisattva), the Golden palace and the Silver palace, the cloud sea etc.Then,leave for Wannian monastery located in the waist of Mt.emei, after sightseeing in this temple, we'll walk down to Qingying pavilion, a strip skyline, and monkey mountain along the tranquil path hidden in the forest, enjoying the pleasure of the peaceful coexistence of man and monkey. Our trip will end when we drive back to Chengdu.
