Lijiang Introduction

Lijiang is an old town in the Northwest of Yunnan. It was built 800 years ago. It is a state-level ancient cultural city. In 1997 Lijiang Prefecture was added to the List of World's Cultural Heritages. With the area of 20,600 square kilometers in the Northwest of Yunnan Province, Lijiang Prefecture has a population of 1.02 million. Lijiang prefecture is made up of four counties: Lijiang Naxi Autonomous county, Yongshen county, Ninglang Yi minority Autonomous county and Huaping county. The four counties have elevations that ranges from 1015meters to 5596meters (which is the summit of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain) .The temperature of the various counties will differ according to their elevations.

In Lijiang, the month of November to May is a dry season with plenty of sunshine. The rainy season is from July to October. Base on the statistic taken in 1996, the total population of Lijiang Prefecture is 1.07 million and out of which 0.61 million is the total population of the 22 minority groups. The main minority groups are the Naxi, Yi, Lisu, Bai and Pumi. Lijiang has beautiful landscapes and has a year-around warm climate.

The most popular scenic spots and tourist attractions in Lijiang City are Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, the Old Man Peak, the Black Dragon Pool, the Jade Peak Monastery and the Tiger Leaping Gorge.
